Low Key Opens 2 and 3 Round-up

I have been a bit tardy with reporting recently, but here's how some of our Juniors have done at the last two Low Key Opens LKO). For the first LKO, we had nine Juniors and Teens competing but for the last two numbers have been lower. They are great opportunities for the Juniors and younger Teens to try out different events. Representing the Club, at these two "introductory" Track and Field meetings) were:

Low key Open 2 : Sunday 15th June

Brecon Musk (8) in 600m and 60m Hurdles

Esther Eldridge (9) in 600m

James Kalantzis (9) in 60m, Vortex (howler throw) and Long Jump

Lola Beardsley (8) in 55m hurdles, 60m, long jump and Speed bounce (lateral jumps per minute over a small barrier)

Low Key Open 3 : Sunday 6th July

Ed Knight (11) in 1200m

Jack McPeak (8) in 60m Hurdles, Vortex, long jump and speed bounce

REPORT

LKO2

James wasn't happy with his 100m result or his jumps, due to his run up (more practice coming!) but did win his Vortex competition with what i think is a long way!

Report from Jo on Brecons' 600m : "It was much tougher yesterday. The standard was much higher. He was dead last in the 600m for the first half. He moved past a few in the second half but the front 5 or so were very fast and a long way ahead. He was disappointed that he didn't run faster than the last time which was the target we talked about rather than position"

Mum giving Brecon coaching goals already! Brecon was only 7 seconds outside a U13 Level 1 PB award, which I think is excellemt for an 8 year old. Well done, Brecon.

Kate's message on Esther's run : "She came last out of 7 but I was very proud of her for not giving up as it was the first 600m she has ever ran plus she wasn’t far behind the last three girls."

Despite that Esther was only 3 seconds outside achieving an Under 13's Level 1 PB Award, which i think is really good for a 9 year old. Well done, Esther.

However, multi-eventer Lola Beardsley, only 8 remember, did get two Under 13 PB Awards : level 2 for her long jump and an astonishing Level 4 for her 60m. Quite outstanding.

Proud mum, Katy's report:

"She had a fantastic morning and won 1st in the U10 60m, she came 2nd in U10 55m hurdles, 3rd in Speed bounce and 3rd in Long Jump".

LKO3

We're starting to see really good performances from the Juniors who attend regularly and do the events. One such is Ed Knight, who was really good over the cross country in the winter and produced a Level 4 PB Award standard run in the 1200m. Well done, Ed.

For another multi-eventer, Jack, it a day of "only justs" He was only just outside the U13 Level 1 standards for the hurdles (half a second) and long jump (7cm). at only 8 he'll get them soon. He also came first in Speed Bounce with an impressive 42 in a minute! Well done, Jack.
