Family PB's at Cheltenham, and (t)ales of beer races
It was a quiet week for racing, with just the one that we’ve found – the half marathon in Cheltenham today Sunday 20th.
Clare Stickney and her daughter Bella both had successful races, picking up PB’s as well as having a fun morning running around the Cheltenham cityscape. Clare was 28th lady out of 1835, so well up in a big field. Congratulations to both of them!

Rich Allen recorded his best time at Cirencester for more than 6 months to finish in 2nd, whilst Charlotte Wilton was 2nd lady home. No PB’s or milestones this week.
Colin and Clare Tapley were doing the tourist thing at Durlston country park near Swanage, an interesting choice as Clare explains
“When you haven’t been able to do anything for weeks why not start back at Britain’s hilliest parkrun? Not a course for a PB but a great one for soaking up the atmosphere and admiring the views. Right, left, out and back, right, left, finish … and I did.”
Casey Vatcher was pleased with his 3rd place at Tetbury - his highest finish to date.
Rachel Ranger {enjoyed/engaged in} a bit of friendly competition with Paul Timms, being pushed to her 2nd fastest time in over a year in finishing just 7s ahead of Paul.

And finally, as it’s a very short report otherwise, I thought I’d mention a race in Germany that picked up some UK press coverage. Here is a link to the website for the event
Competitors run a track mile, but at the end of each lap they have to down a 335ml (just over half a pint) glass of beer that is at least 5% ABV. The record set in 20205 is an astonishing 4.29! A bit more challenging that our local Stroud Beer race.
Our esteemed results compiler is by no means a stranger to the beer-running combination, and confirms that beer miles are quite popular. He tells of the Isle of Man Easter series of races -
“One year an Edinburgh Uni guy famously ran 100 miles and drank 100 pints in 100 hours (the four-day festival). Each pint/mile was signed for so we got dragged out at about 3am to run a mile or two. Happy days.”
I guess mathematically a pint per mile is less than 4 x 335ml, but repeated 100 times !!
