Avon League Quadkids competition
On Sunday, it was the Club's first athletics meeting for about 30 years, and the Avon League, held at Yate, has two competitions at each meeting :
usual athletics events for Under 14s and older people (there are seniors competing), and,
beforehand, a Quadkids competition for Under 12s and Under 10s (if insufficient U12s are available).
As the Quadkids competition was first up on Sunday at 9am, I will report that here.
Quadkids comprises four events : 75m sprint, 600m run, standing long jump and howler throw.
Unfortunately, due to calendar clashes and illness we were unable to field both a boys and girls team, but the following Teens and Juniors did participate.

For some it was their first experience of athletics competition outside of school. And it was a little cool and damp under foot.
The whole purpose of our participation was to get experience of the league match to determine if we wished to join the league next year and participate in all of the matches. There's usually 4 meetings. Part of participating is not only having the athletes but also parent helpers to ensure the events run smoothly and the officials are supported in the measuring of the children's performances.
As we were only competing in the last of the league matches, our Quadkid athletes couldn't compete in the overall competition, but it's good to see how they did, especially now that there are EA PB Award standards for the QK events at U12 level, if not U10. As a reminder, there are 9 levels.
The QK competition is popular, with nearly a hundred children participating.
We had some notable performances across all the events especially in the sprints, jumps and throws; in the latter all our boys threw very well and Charlie achieved the highest ever PB Award level of 9 with his 30m plus howler throw.
