CROSS free for all, while Brian Harris SMASHES M55 20 mile record

Brian Harris knocked more than SIX MINUTES from the club M55 record by racing round and round 2.4 mile laps of Goodwood to complete 20 miles in 2 hour 28 minutes 59 seconds. Brian had already set an new club record for MV55 in the Gloucester 20 which, many will remember, was run in March this year perilously close to the start of the first lockdown, but setting himself the target of a sub 2.30 20, he managed to average sub 7.30 miles despite repeatedly struggling against wind and gradient in one section of the lap. Brian reports that sharing the track with runners running anything from 5km upwards was far from ideal in these Covid vulnerable times but we can all hope he will be able to launch his attack on the marathon in the spring in an easier, safer era.

7 Brian Harris (Cirencester A C) 2:28:59 2nd MV55 New Club M55 record

This week we are pleased to re-launch CROSS with a free for all.

Many of us are finding it increasingly difficult to run a road 5km with anything like enthusiasm let alone effort so we are suggesting those who want to have a go at one of the trail runs on the CROSS pages of the club web site. If you still want to run a road 5km feel free but if you want to try out one of James’ excellent routes, do. Martin, our ever patient gatherer of results, will record whatever you choose to send him. Hopefully, in time we will all get to try all of the trail routes but if you are still reluctant to travel far please pick a route near you.

The listing on the web site is due to be updated shortly but in the meanwhile this is what you can/should be doing over the next few weeks. Give something a go and share how you get on.
