An outright win and course record for Ollie Pritchard

Ollie Pritchard finished the Mid Sussex Triathlon at Burgess Hill with a stunning run to clinch first place, set a new course record AND hit a new 5 km PB. 5 kms in 15.55 is a fine run by any standard but factor in that it came after over 50 minutes of swimming and cycling effort and was on grass, this time becomes very impressive. The next runner in was 2nd overall but his run was 86 seconds slower. It is even more amazing then to hear that Ollie “felt better” at the end of the run than at the start despite running negative splits – but then running has always been his favourite discipline. As for the course record, we gather Ollie’s 01.01.41 may have clipped over two minutes of the previous record. With all the Covid controls requiring social distancing, the transitions were slow too. Congratulations to Ollie on such a strong performance although, starting in a 6.45 am wave was a distinct advantage given the heat later in the day, the hardest part proved to be the end of cycle with 3 km uphill into a headwind.

Brian Harris also had a great run, completing 10 km around the grass and tracks of Cheltenham Race Course in 44.45 to finish first in his MV55 age group. Those of us who have had the opportunity to observe the commitment and dedication Brian brings to his running were not surprised and we look forward to equally successful performances over greater distances in the future.
