QuadKids "competition"

ree

This summer, we have been doing QuadKids events with both the Juniors and younger Teens (Under 13s) using the QuadKids scoring system. Unfortunately, due to the incident at the College and an Open Day (evening) not all the Juniors and Teens were able to complete four events, so we will have another go next year, starting in April and so hopefully having sufficient opportunities for all to score in all four disciplines: sprint, run, jump and throw.

The Under 11s do 75m, 600m, Standing Long Jump and Howler Throw. The Under 13s do 100m, 800m, Long Jump and Howler Throw. Many schools use QuadKids competitions and some Open Track and Field meetings also include them, e.g. Gloucester Spring Open, as they are fun and a chance for youngsters to try new events and find where their strengths lie.

For those who like to know, I will include the Quadkids information in reports to parents, but here I would highlight those who did particularly well, assuming they did manage to do all four events:

Under 13s boys:

1st Oscar Harris 217 points with a strength in the run

2nd Arthur Honor 178 points with strength in the run

3rd Luca Sage 140 points with strength in the run

Under 13s girls:

1st Abigail Cunningham 168 points with strengths in run and jump

2nd Eleanor Fraser 148 points with strengths in run and jump

3rd Georgia Hills 140 points with strength in the run

Under 11s boys:

1st Albert Platts 205 points with strengths in run and jump

2nd Henry Thomas 193 points with strengths in jump and throw

3rd Digby Withington 162 points with strengths in jump and throw

Under 11s girls:

1st Isla Wright 179 points with strengths in run and jump

2nd Ania Gasior 144 points with strength in three events

3rd Anneliese Crawford 141 points with strength in the run

I would congratulate all the Juniors and Teens, who particiapated, as they all were committed to doing their best and there were some great performances.

Now that we have a baseline, we will be able to monitor improvements in these events next Spring through to Autumn, in addition to those we measure indoors in the Winter:

  • Vertical jump (Counter-Movement-Jump)

  • Standing Long Jump

  • indoor Shot Put (Teens)

  • Bleep Test (Teens)

Notable individual performances I will include in a report on the English Schools Athletics Association's and England Athletics' PB Awards standards, achieved by the Juniors and Teens, especially for the latter.
