Weight up - a quiet week

Despite the first light snow of the season in Ciren on Thursday, enjoyed by the Thursday morning group , there were fortunately no local Parkrun cancellations this week, which was just as well as it was otherwise a very quiet week for racing.

After their New York marathon exploits, the Kilby’s were off once more, this time to warmer climes in Lanzarote – La Santa resort (definitely not an inappropriately early seasonal reference).

This is no ordinary holiday resort – see PR photo below, which should successfully put off people who perhaps wouldn’t enjoy it there ;-))

Their first run (maybe more next week) was a 10k – Kate’s succinct “got round” Strava post on her 53.29 perhaps indicating the marathon is still in her legs?

Closer to home, Karen Higuera was pleased to get back to some proper muddy running, around the grounds of Woodchester Park in a trail 10k. This was a self-timed event, so there were no formal results. Karen kindly provided this feedback

"Taking place on 4th Sunday of each month the Woodchester park trust 10k - it’s free no need to be a member! There’s all day parking for £3, or free for National Trust members, toilets, a cafe and much more for families during the summer months.

The 10k route is slippy in some parts so wear trail shoes and you’ll be fine. nThere’s a bit of everything gravel, grassy old meadow bouncy fields, rock and a decent hard path for your final half a mile or so climb home, so not for the faint hearted ⛰️ but a really enjoyable run. Well marked as well as marshals on any tight corners where you could miss the 🪧 turning.

I absolutely loved it as well as a good catch up with friends over a hot bap, vegan cookie and a cappuccino that didn’t cost the earth after 😍 see you there next month! "

On the parkrun scene, a healthy 14 club members braved the slippery Cirencester mud in the rain - conditions which presumably accounted for the smaller than usual field.

First home for the club was Bill Leggate, happy enough with his 19.12 in 2nd place bearing in mind the conditions and fairly recent resumption of training at any speed (for him).

Next in was recently-joined Dave Wright, in only his 4th parkrun. Despite the conditions he knocked 30 seconds off his PB, putting him just ahead of back-from-Japan Casey Vatcher running his 30th parkrun.  Well done Dave.

Whilst Sam Timms was getting wet off duty in Ciren, husband Paul was running abroad between BA shifts – enjoying the cold bright weather in Copenhagen, with views of Sweden across the water. (Before moving on to snow in Prague).

Fastest time of the week goes to Rich Allen at Tetbury, running their out and back route.  His 2nd place time of 17.55 was a Tetbury PB, and continued his admirably consistent set of performances.  {FYI Sharon Smith from RSE finished behind Rich, but again broke Parkrun's age grading system with a whopping 103% }

**************************COMING UP NEXT WEEK************************

Sold out as usual, the Eynsham 10k next Sunday will feature several of the club’s fastest men in action – let’s hope the weather is kinder than last year’s rain and strong winds, as it can often be a fast course.

If you are racing elsewhere over the coming week, please let us know.
