Karen and Kate star in 2020 Gloucestershire AAA Road Running Champs

Dave Bell started his racing year with a win in the Dorney Lake ½ Marathon near Windsor but with the next runner over six minutes behind him, this small event failed to provide the company of other fast runners he needs and deserves. But 1.13.33 remains a good time by any standards.

1 David Bell (Cirencester AC) 1.13.33 121 finished.

Sarah Whitehouse and Liza Darroch had a go at the much larger Farnborough ½ Marathon and Sarah is convinced losing a couple of kg enabled her to run 1.49.53 with a negative split so taking a cool 4 minutes from her old PB – a message for us all? Liza was just relieved to have completed despite a virus induced low and slow month. But there was icing on the cake when she discovered she was first in her V70 age group and so qualified for the England Athletics Championships later this year. 1 Casper Hojsgaard Jensen (HMRC Racing) 1.10.38 (chip 1.10.37) 826 Sarah Whitehouse (Cirencester AC) 1.51.35 (1.49.53) 1426 Liza Darroch 2.09.16 (2.07.34) – 1st FV70 1927 finished.

At the Staverton 10, Karen Higuera and Kate Sackett collected valuable points towards this year’s County AAA Road Champs with two healthy age group 2nds. Karen produced another good run finishing in a super consistent 1.17.51 and in sight of the club V55 record. However Kate Sackett, some 84 seconds behind set a new club FV60 of 1.19.15 an improvement of some 13 minutes on one set by Yvonne Binks some 11 years ago and Barbara Thomas held her own with 1.37.46.

Andy Hindson, typically, took on a very different, multi terrain, challenge to squelch his way round the Slaughterford ‘9’ in 1.19.59.
