Juniors and Teens "on track"

In the last week, there were two events where Cirencester AC Juniors and Teens competed: Low Key Open 3 on 28th June at the Prince of Wales stadium and Midsummer Open 1 on Wednesday 1st July at Blackridge track, both put on by Cheltenham & County Harriers.

Representing the Club at LKO were:

Jess Jacobs (8), Evelyn Mawby (8) and new member, Alfie Grayburn (10), so Under 10 and 12, respectively (we've gone metric!).

At MSO 1 it was just "stalwarts": Aria Stavrakakis (13) and Ed Knight (12), both Under 14s.

Low Key Open

The Low Key Open's are not official events, and don't have EA officials, so sometimes results can be a little unreliable, especially sprint race timings. Consequently, the results do not appear on Power of 10 and so are not recognised as Club records. But the events are there to help younger and inexperienced children get the hang of track and field meetings and to support their athletics development. There were over 100 youngsters participating at this, the last LKO for the summer.

Evelyn's mum states, "Great day at Cheltenham. Evie came 5th in the long jump. I see your point re the timing system, her sprint time from a few weeks ago would’ve won today, everyone was at least a second slower compared to the last one! Great event though, really low pressure."

Evelyn did the 60m sprint and Long Jump in 10.36s and 2.58m, which would be EA PB Awards' levels 7 and 8, resp., so we need to get her to an official event.

Alfie just did the 100m in an impressive sub-15 14.98s which would be an U13s EA PB Award level 3; there isn't a PB award for U12s for 100m, sadly. If there was, it would be about level 5, so another Junior to get to an official T&F meeting soon.

Jess did her own version of Quadkids, as there wasn't a QK competition : 60m, 600m, Vortex and Long Jump. Jess ran 2:21.0 for 600m, 11.26 for 60m and threw the Howler 16.07m and jumped 1.99m. All these events now have EA U10 PB Awards except 600m which has a U12 standards and Jess achieved Level 2 U12 for 600m, Level 4 U10 for 60m, level 6 U10 for the Vortex and Level 5 for the Long Jump. Her throw was good enough for second place and so a podium. Well done, Jess.

At this meeting Aria did the 100m and Ed the mile.

Aria came third in her final, but more importantly set a new PB in going under 14 seconds for the first time, finishing in 13.99, with a legal tailwind of 1.4m/s.

This is a Level 6 EA PB Award performance, so really well done, Aria.

Ed came second in his final, in an excellent 5:47.5, which is impressive for the mile.

In running this mile, Ed did 1500m in 5m 24s which is a level 2 U14 PB Award, so well done, Ed.

Hopefully, we can get a few more to participate in another MSO, when it doesn't clash with Deer Park's enrichment week.
