Club champs update, parkrun successes and another marathon win for Michael

It was another very quiet week on the racing front, but lots of you were having fun at parkruns and also running whilst on holiday all over the world.

 

 

CLUB ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

 

The leader board has now been updated on our website

 

 

This now reflects not only the Frampton 10k, but also the first two of the three Heddington 5k series (your best time from any one race counts) and the 2026 marathon rankings up to last week (anybody who runs one gets a minimum 10 points). {Are you surprised only 3 ladies have run a marathon this year?}.

Phoenix Fridays Marathon - Walton-on-Thames

 

Why wait for the weekend to knock off another marathon? Last Friday 7th, Michael Hobbs notched up his 5th marathon of the year. Nobody else we know of has done more than one.

 

Here is how it went -

 

“Happy enough with that. Same course as the other week. 8 out and back laps. 16 bridges. 16 u-turns. Flat course, but multi terrain. Went out quite strong and was through halfway in 1:32:30. Faded a little in the second half as it got warm. It was probably 20 degrees by the end. Struggled a little with fuelling, got down around 120g of carbs.  Weather- sunny, cool, light breeze. Getting warmer as the morning went on!”

 

 

He seems to just keep getting stronger as his time of 3.08.35 was his fastest of the year so far, giving him his second win. Congratulations again Michael!

 

 

PARKRUNS

 

 

There was a fairly large and very sociable turnout at the Ciren parkrun last week.

 

The club did really well, taking 5 of the top 10 places, including another win for Rob Forbes and 1st lady for Kate Jacobs.

 

Bill Leggate and family had only just returned from holiday in Coast Rica, so were running at 2am as far as their body clocks were concerned – understandable that Bill couldn’t hold on to relative youngster Rob this week. He still achieved 80% age-graded on a course that is almost certainly still long.

Rich Allen acknowledged that he went out too hard, paid for it on lap 3 😢, but still turned in a respectable time considering he was barely recovered from a 4-day holiday-related illness.

 

Kate Jacobs finished 1st lady, and best age-graded of the day at 81.9%, whilst her husband Andy and daughter (the club’s youngest member) enjoyed two laps.

 

Casey Vatcher should be pleased with his run – only 8 seconds off his PB.

 

Club members also took 7 of the top 10 age-graded placings – the other 3 being

·       Brian Harris, following coach’s instructions to run it at “tempo pace”.

 

·       Charlotte Wilton – “rebuild to speed starts here”

Lorna Harris ran with Gordon Jones and Richard Edwards which was great company for her. All 3 of them were returning from injury & running at a similar pace. Her legs were really tired at the end but she still managed a sprint finish!

 

The McAdams volunteered as well as running, with Cathie Cowell being our other volunteer this week.

  

Best age-graded run of the week by far was Kate Kilby with over 87% at Stonehouse – brilliant !


No PB's or milestones spotted this week.
