Juniors and Teens Cross Country

Rachel has already very kindly posted the results of the last league cross-country race, at Pittville park, Cheltenham.

It was a day for mixed feelings : great pride in the performances of all the children who participated, recognising that XC is not necessarily everyone’s strength, but also sadness in that perhaps some results didn’t go our way on the day and saying goodbye to one of our.”stalwart” XC runners, if you can be a stalwart when only 12!?

Firstly, let’s discuss the Under 13 boys. This year it’s been the first race at each meeting, and following a tremendous start when we hosted the first race back in November in Cirencester Park, our trio of Joe and Robbie Stickney and Ben Conway surprised many with a well deserved 30 point lead with the boys all coming in the top 5. Unfortunately, they could not replicate this at etc County championships (and league race 2) at Bath University, mainly due to Ben not being well the week before, os he missed training on the Wednesday but still ‘pitched up’ on the Saturday to run. Cheltenham harriers then overtook us . It was a close thing at the third event at the Cotswold Farm Park at Guiting Power,  with our boys just pipping Cheltenham by a couple of points, not enough to take back the lead. So it came down to the last race at Cheltenham’s home course. Not surprisingly our boys could not beat them there but did really well, with Ben running his last race for the Club, as hie’s changing Clubs, due to his football training closing with our training night.

Individually the Under 13 boys team placed very well in the league standings with Joe third, Robbie 8th and Ben 10th. Other boys who ran were Ben’s younger brother, Toby, who placed 26th, and Bertie Andrews 30th. Other boys ran, but did not qualify due to insufficient races. Similarly for our U13 girls. None raced enough times to qualify for a placing, noting that Evie and Emma placed 19th and 20th at Pittville park.

The Under 11’s were lead home again by Heath Forbes, 10th, with Ted Lockhart, Otis Forbes, Finlay Garrett and Bo Raikes all getting top 30 placings.  Also running were Wilf Andrews, Stanley Harrison and Leuan Mather for the boys and Aria Stavrakakis, Annabel Campbell and Abigail Cunningham all doing well in the girls race. Annabel and Aria placed 12th and 13th respectively in the league standings, so well done girls. In the boys individual standings Heath came 10th, Otis 21st, Ted 22nd, Bertie 35th and Stanley 37th in a large age group.

In the Under 15s our sole competitor, Isabella Stickney did us proud coming 4th in the race, but 3rd in the league standings, with a really consistent set of results over the four races: 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 4th.

We had no other runners in the older age groups and none ran often enough to get a league placing.
