Cross Country Comes to a Close

A couple of pieces of admin first this week.

Don't forget to book your seat for curry night which will incorporate the presentation of various well earned awards for 2023. See the News Feed post dated 3rd February for details of how to book your place.

We are really keen for someone to take on the role of weekly news reporter as Rachel will step down at the end of March. Martin collates the results, but relies on YOU to tell him if you have run a race. We need somebody to just add a bit of narrative to the results each week. Again, YOUR contribution is essential. It's not a massive task but without it we will just have a weekly list of results as of April. If you think it's something you could contribute to your club. have a word with Pam or Rachel.

A little extra piece of information regarding our band of four at the Bramley 20 last weekend. An eagle eyed club member spotted that Rupert's run does in fact set an inaugural club MV65 record for the 20 mile distance.

Andy Hindson took on the many ups and downs of the challenging Dursley Dozen on Sunday and sums it up like this.

"The Dursley Dozen didn't disappoint. More mud than I've ever experienced on the course. After the torrential rain that was forecast, it was lovely to run in blue skies and sunshine. It's always a good pointer as to where your fitness is and mine isn't quite where I'd like it to be. Slowest time since 1996, the first time I ran it in training for the London Marathon."

A tremendous run from Andy, almost thirty years on from his first Dursley Dozen. He probably shouldn't be too hard on himself!

There was a terrific showing from our cross country runners at Pittville Park in Cheltenham on Saturday. This was the final race of four in the series.

Bill Leggate, James Thomas and Ian Barrett all crossed the line within a couple of minutes of each other with Bill and Ian taking 2nd and 3rd place in their respective age groups.

Kate Jacobs put in yet another stunning run in her race, senior ladies ran alongside several other age groups of younger men and ladies and also men over 65. Kate placed 25th overall but was 1st in her FV45 age group. Kate's impressive performances across the season earned her an overall win in the FV45 category. Congratulations.

There were many fine runs across the age groups from Dorian's gritty juniors. Dorian will have more to say and has some photographs to come of proud prize winners. On Saturday the U13 boys took 2nd place in the team competition and the U11 girls were 3rd.

The Glos AAA athletics4u website has a comprehensive round up of the results from Saturday and the overall results after all for meetings. Some of the Cirencester highlights appear to be:

Isabella Stickney overall 3rd U15 girls

Joseph Stickney overall 3rd U13 boys

U13 boys team 2nd overall

James Thomas overall 4th MV35

Aaron Willis overall 2nd MV40

Bill Leggate overall 2nd MV45

Ian Barrett overall 4th MV50

Congratulations to all our winners and everyone who took part over the season.

You can look at individual parkrun event websites for a full round up of results including age gradings. But thanks to Pam, who ran at a muddy, slippery Cirencester, for picking out some top age graded runs from Gordon, Wendy, Alan, Rachel McAdam and Ollie Campbell, who won at Chippenham, all at 70% and above. Pam herself ran a 72.32% age grade, matching Martin Croucher who tested his speed at Lydiard this week and finished 14th.

Pam also made special mention of the excellent support from club members out on marshal duty at Cirencester on Saturday.
