Cirencester Runs Over the Second Spike

CROSS running – Week 1

The pictures tell the story of the first CROSS run. James launched our new “run anytime” CROSS initiative with a friendly route involving several beautiful sections through golden woods and along the banks of the river Leach. Add some stepping stone and, in some cases, continuous rain and you have the setting for some very sociable runs including for Louise with friends from RSE.

Not surprisingly the man who designed the route also ran it the fastest but it was great to see Colin and Clare Tapley both had a go and Nick and Jo and Ruth and Liza making the journey from way over the other side of our area.

The swimmers got off to a great start too – four brave souls swimming a cool 18,432m over the week to get us from the notional start at Teddington Lock to Vauxhall Bridge leaving us 225.87km to go to the finish at the start of the Thames near Kemble. All swimming contributions welcome – just email your data to cirenacresults@gmail.com – more details on the website.

Next week the fans of road running have what for many is the hardest of challenges – the 1 mile dash but the following week the Sapperton trail is much nearer to Cirencester’s doorstep so make sure you write that into you plans.

Missed from the week before was the Hullavington Half Marathon where Ollie Campbell popped up again to finish a fine 5th on a day when the course record was said to be broken by both men and women. In these Covid blighted times runners were started in waves of upto 6 with a one minute gap between waves and as a result each one was awarded both a “Net” (shown in brackets) and a “Gross” time making strict comparisons with other “raced” events difficult. But we can be assured that Ollie is fit and running well as was Chris Prevett who finished around the 2 hour mark.

All members should note that Martin, who compiles the results, has no way of knowing what races are taking place as many of them are not officially recognized. This means that you MUST email him on cirenacresults@gmail.com if you want your results to be recorded on the web site, in these reports and, most importantly, in the club annals.

Note this applies to CROSS events too – no email – no inclusion!
