Chilly By Name..........

The Chilly 10k at the Castle Combe motor racing circuit lived up to its name on Sunday morning. On a bright but cold morning Rachel Barrow surprised herself with a significantly improved PB at the distance.

Whilst the course is pretty flat there was quite a headwind in the home straight which competitors had to deal with three times on this multiple lap route. The organisers, DB Max, had supplied plenty of pace makers for different finish times. Rachel kept the 50 minute pacers in sight just hoping to come in inside her previous best of 51:53 achieved at Berkeley last month. She was delighted, and slightly stunned, by her finish time of 49:54.

Whilst the course is fairly unremarkable, the event is definitely one to try for anyone chasing a time. A flat, smooth surface, plenty of space and lots of really accurate pacers help the PB hunters.

Dave Wright took to the undulating, rural roads of Dorset for the Wimborne 10 mile race. His fine performance saw him complete the distance in an impressive 1:05:17 and claim second spot in his V60 age group.

As always, club members popped up at various parkrun events this weekend. But first, details of an omission from last week’s report. On his first outing at Stonehouse parkrun Brecht Grieten finished in first place in a time of 19:24. Apologies to Brecht for leaving out details of his win.

Of note this week, prolific parkrunner Ollie Campbell ran a course PB of 16:59 to take first place in what looked like a closely fought battle at Coventry. parkrun first timers Nicola Wood and Paul Edrich enjoyed the Penrose event in Cornwall as Nicola returns to running. Holly Willis had a strong run in a huge field at Poole. Nea Sneddon-Jenkins was 2nd lady at Tetbury.

There was a good club turnout at Cirencester amongst runners and volunteers. Strong runs from Brian Harris and Tom Payne brought them both top ten finishes and a course PB for Tom. Paul Barrow completed a 5k distance for the first time since his bike accident. Cathie Cowell was the essential tail walker this week.
