An Assortment of parkruns

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

The club was represented at several parkruns on Saturday.

At Cirencester, where there is mixed terrain and a slightly long course, club members ran and also volunteered. Brian Harris, currently training for a marathon just a few short weeks away, finished in a fine 9th place. He admits to going out a bit too quickly in the first mile and so eased off a little, keeping in mind the 16 mile run on his schedule the following day. He also did well to stay upright after losing his footing on the nasty, tight turn where the surface changes to concrete for a short while. Rachel Ranger, also with a marathon looming on the calendar, ran an excellent 25:46 (especially with that extra .2 of a mile to contend with) to finish 2nd lady only 11 seconds behind the 1st lady, 20 years her junior. All on top of a week including some long, hilly runs on the Dorset coast. Simon Campbell, pushing a buggy, was pipped to the post by daughter Annabel in an excellent, family team effort. Although it’s fair to say some members of the family looked more keen than others at the end of the second lap. Well done Annabel! There were also steady runs from Peter Rowland and Richard Edwards.

Nea Sneddon-Jenkins incorporated the very tough course at Ashton Court into a longer run. After arriving at the last minute she had to run to catch up, not the best way to start this out and back route with 300 feet of climbing to the halfway point. She clocked an impressive 24:46. Kate Sackett was 2nd lady at Stonehouse. Rachel and Alan Mcadam enjoyed a run at their preferred local Tetbury parkrun. Neil Broadley ran well at Horsham to finish in 23:41. Ollie Campbell and Dave Wright both ran superbly to finish high up the order in some events with larger fields. Ollie came home in 7th place at Eastville in 19:01 and Dave ran a similar time at Salisbury to finish 20th in a field of 392.
