It was set to be another fairly quiet weekend for racing until we heard of a club runner competing in the first big marathon of the season (you’ll hear plenty more about marathons over the next two weeks at least).
We're grateful for Charlie Clarke sending this report in -
“I ran the Brighton marathon today and finished in 4 hours 14 minutes. It was a comfortable run with excellent crowd support and a twisting course that covers all that Brighton has to offer. It was windy but the course winds backwards and forwards and so the wind is in your face and at your back.
It wasn’t a spectacular time but one month away from my 70th, I am more than happy that I managed to go the distance.”

Maybe not “spectacular” for Charlie, but good enough to be a new club V65 record for Charlie – well worth a post-race beer now he knows that !! Many congratulations Charlie.
Without wishing to tempt fate, Charlie already has the Bath marathon in his diary for August and so he will now have an extra incentive for his training– Dick Waldron’s MV70 record is around 4:25….

Elsewhere, there were just two road 10k’s we were aware of today Sunday 12th, but we only have feedback from one of the members who ran.
Richard Read was returning to racing for the first time in 8 years at Tewkesbury. Whilst he was just outside his target time of 45 minutes, it’s great to see a (fairly) new member making his comeback to racing with club.

11th April parkruns
Congratulations to Ollie Campbell for his win at Tetbury.
At Cirencester, Kate Kilby had a strong run to log the best age graded score of the day at a whopping 85%.
First member home was Rich Allen who has been coping with a shin problem. He celebrated his 50th parkrun by running with daughter Tilly, who finished as 2nd lady despite being at the younger end of JW11-14. Congrats to both.
There were ups and downs on the injury watch front - it was good to see Rachel Ranger back with no knee niggle, but unfortunately Karen Higuera was still below par.
If she’s reading, this perhaps Susanna Austin could let us know if she was approached by any strangers after being featured in Runner World? Hopefully no paparazzi ;-)
Ian Barrett did his usual 12-13mi workout around a new parkrun location, this time as part of a rather small field at Wotton-under Edge.
Another member wrapping a pretty speedy parkrun into his pre-marathon workout was Mike Hobbs, who also came 3rd in 19.17 at Moreton-in-Marsh Fire Service College.
Carrying on his recent habit of international parkrunning, well almost, Paul Timms tried out the out and back course along the coast in Aberdeen, but brutal rain and headwinds made the first half pretty grim. A stunning course in better weather.
