Trailing off

After last week's flurry of racing, this week we just have a few trail races to report on plus a smaller than usual number parkrun results.

PS From last week - Lighthouse Marathon, Pendeen to Gwithian, Cornwall

The results were not available when we went to press last week for Lara Tompson and Jo Roberts’ coastal marathon on 8th November. We understand they used it as a recce run for the Arc of Attrition 50-miler in late January – hope the rest of the training goes well.

1 Sean Wylie (unattached) 3.46.45

138 Lara Tompson (Cirencester AC) 7.32.47

139 Jo Roberts 7.32.47

16 November, Broadway Trails Marathon, 26.5 miles

The Broadway Marathon, which is slightly longer than the standard marathon distance, offers runners

“the opportunity to challenge themselves and each other amid the stunning scenery of the northern Cotswolds. Starting and finishing in scenic Broadway village, the route follows trails and roads among picturesque villages, woodlands, and, most importantly, HILLS.”

Taking part was long-time member Chris Illman, who holds 3 of the club’s open records (5k/10k/10mi) set in the late 2000’s. In 2009 he was also in the top 3 U23’s in the UK over 20mi and marathon.

Nowadays he rarely races, but when he does it’s ultra events. Like Lara and Jo above he may have been using this race as part of his preparations for a longer event next year.  If so, hope that goes well Chris. Watch this space.

1 Richard Elsworthy (CLC Striders) 3.18.20

12 Chris Illman (Cirencester AC) 3.57.18

16 November, Avebury8 Nine, 9 miles trail

The Avebury 8 is one of Corinne Clark’s favourite trail races, and she enjoyed the muddy course, accompanied for the first time by her “bump” due next summer – many congratulations Corinne !!

David Wright won his 10-year age group and found Avebury to be an excellent race, with lots of hills, trails, water and stiles to climb over.  He mentioned that the winner was some 5 mins clear of the field. Long-time running mate Keith Firkin was less than 5 minutes behind.

1 Simon Nott (Calne RC) 51.19

14 David Wright (Cirencester AC) 1.09.11 – 1st V60

30 Keith Firkin 1.14.24

48 Corinne Clark 1.20.56

15 November Parkruns

It seems there’s no escaping Claudia’s at the moment – sadly the Traitors may have finished, but unfortunately Strictly hasn’t, and this weekend Storm Claudia significantly reduced the opportunities for our Parkrunners to prove they were Faithfuls ;-))

With both Cirencester (flooded) and Tetbury (tree down) out of action, quick sharing of info on club whatsapp enabled the McAdams to divert to Chipping Sodbury just in time, whilst the Timms recommend the relatively weather-proof Gloucester City (flat tarmac mostly).

Congratulations to Rich Allen for his win at Lydiard Park, once again running consistently close to the 18min mark.

Casey Vatcher was running his first non-uk parkrun at one of the several events in and around Tokyo. It looks very scenic indeed (see photos below) and absent the stormy conditions in the UK, looks quite fast too as it allowed Casey to log his 2nd best 5k time. The race website being in Japanese I can offer no further intel ;-))
