Team success at 20 miles

Lots of racing this week with a strong contingent attending the Fission 20 and 1/2 in Berkeley. This popular 20-mile road race was once again full, with many runners using it en route to London or another Spring marathon. Andy Fellows was first home for the club in 2 hours 24 mins, followed by Jo Musk and Brian Harris with only 3 seconds between them! They reportedly ran together all the way both bagging a 3rd in age group result and improving their own respective club age records, Jo by a whopping 7 minutes, and Brian by 79 seconds. Next came Corinne in 2 hours 29mins then Harrie Siebenaller running a PB of 2 hours 32mins, Charlotte Wilton in 2 hours 42mins and Nick Wall in 3 hours 11mins to come second in his MV65 age group. Pride of place must go to our 4 ladies who despite the very windy conditions and Charlotte only one week on from a strong run in the Bath Half, battled through to win the team prize, stopping Stroud AC taking the male/female double. Welcome encouragement was to be had around the course from Kate and Andy, supporting though not running this year.

Keith Firkin was also running in the Reading 2010, completing the undulating multi-terrain 10 miler on the Mapledurham estate in a time of 1 hour 26mins to come 41st of a field of 168 runners.

On the Parkrun front, we had representation at 8 different events this week including Wendy Nicholls at Lydiard running a 21-minute time to secure the fastest female runner spot, Oli Campbell was running in Coventry, in Cirencester there were 9 runners including Paul Timms, Rachel Ranger, Gordon Jones, Brendan McCarthy, Pam Wheeler, Kirtsy Leggatte, Oliver Wigley, Sam Timms and Lorna Harris. The McAdams were both at Tetbury Goods Shed, Jos Randall was at Kadina Trail parkrun in Western Australia, no doubt experiencing more temperate weather than her UK counterparts! Dave Moss was running the Lordship Recreation Ground parkrun and team Thomas were out with the double buggy again, this time Liz was pushing the kids around the squidgy trail course across fields and alongside the canal at Grove parkrun at points battling a fierce headwind exacerbated by pushing a buggy which seemed to be acting like a sail(!) leaving James free to win the race.
