STORMING THE SODBURY SLOG

To start with, two follow on points from prior news

Official results of the Glos AAA road race series confirmed all the medallists that we reported on last weekend, but in addition we now know that our veteran ladies team came 3rd.

In addition, Cirencester AC was one of only 5 out of 14 clubs that fielded both men and ladies teams in the full required 8 races – so many thanks to all runners who represented the club in any of the 12 races.

With the week finishing for many with the quiet reflection of Remembrance Sunday, other than parkrun the racing scene was also a bit quieter than usual, just two races on Sunday.

9 November 2025, Sodbury Slog, Chipping Sodbury, c. 8.5mi multi-terrain

The club only had two of the 875 runners in the Sodbury Slog, a very multi-terrain event, but they both the club proud.

As we don’t have any mucky action shots of our runners yet, here are some advertising photos for the race showing how much fun it is........ if you like type 2 bog-trotting fun.

Below are some cleaner photos of our two runners.

Storm Trow had a super run, finishing 1st lady with over a minute to spare over 2nd place, in a field of >300. Many congratulations to her!

{Ed. If you do get the sheep dip photo Storm, I’m happy to include next week ;-) }

Our only other runner Jack Bonnick had run the slog for the first time last year, finishing 12th in 1.07.10. He improved to 8th position this year in a time of 57.08, albeit most of that time improvement was due to enduring a shorter course this year, as he explained

“Yes, second year in a row doing the Sodbury Slog, course cut short by approx a mile due to rogue cows on the common! Despite this, quicker pace than last year and managed a top 10 finish in my favourite and least favourite event of the year 😃 .

I would recommend to all runners as it is good fun….but once it’s over!

Also no Ciren vest as it’s too nice and expensive to get put through the mud 😂 “.

Having seen the event’s typical conditions, leaving off the club aero vest is forgiven Jack! Maybe ask Andy Duff for a cheap old one for next year ;-)

9 November 2025, Dorney Lake Half Marathon, Windsor, 13.1 miles road

Only two weeks after setting a club age record and clocking his best time for 6 years at Stroud, Dave Bell was out racing again at the flatter Dorney Lake course. Here’s how he got on.

“Good run out today. Feel I paced it pretty well, although found the 4th lap mentally tough and struggled a bit towards the end. Was leading until mile 12 and then 1st and 2nd came past and I couldn't quite respond. Happy to run only 16s slower than Stroud 2 weeks ago though.”

Congratulations on another podium finish, Dave.

PARKRUNNERS 8TH NOVEMBER

No milestones or PB’s this week, but you could almost set your watch by Clare Stickney’s parkrun time over the last few months given her consistency, and at Ciren this week it earned her the honour of 1st lady . Following on, husband Tim was the responsible adult with one of their sons/junior members Sammy.

Rich Allen was first man home for the club in a relatively relaxed time (by his high standards) of 18.38. He and neighbour Pam Wheeler set the highest age-graded scores of the day.

Two members were parkrunning abroad – Charles Woodd in Hamburg, and new member this year Helena Sexton down under in one of the Sydney locations, where she had a great run to break 20 minutes and finish first lady in her 2nd best Strava 5k time. Well done Helena

COMING NEXT WEEK

Lara Tompson’s Strava run this weekend looked suspiciously like a marathon – we’ll try and track it down for next week’s report.

If you have a race coming up in your calendar – please let us know. You can post on the Races and Events part of the club whatsapp community or direct message the editor or results co-ordinator on cirenacresults@gmail.com
