Great win by Bill Leggate

Early in the week Bill Leggate ran a strong 35.14 10k for a resounding win in the undulating Bugatti 10k race. He was followed by Barbara Thomas and Ruth Fulford both busy winning points for the Gloucestershire AAA Road Champs.

Chris Illman, picked on the RAT for one of his rare forays into competitive running. Clearly the Marathon Des Sables is a hard act to follow but Chris chose another hard run, albeit of “only” 20 miles, along the cliff paths of Cornwall and finished 3rd taking seconds over 3 hours.

Wind, rain and mud made for difficult conditions for the sprint triathlon on Saturday especially for the 40km bike section making Steve Derrick happy with his time of 2.31.38. Sunday was the turn of Louis Nolan and Sophie Chudley competing in slightly easier conditions. Louis loved his first triathlon and Sophie, as a relative novice, was happy with her cycle and, of course, her run but felt her swimming technique could be improved.

The winds and the rain made parkrun PBs hard to achieve this weekend but Daniel Winfield (JM15-17) was only 3 seconds shy of his which was good enough for a win on the new route at Tetbury Goods Shed where Alan and Rachel McAdam did both manage a course PB. Adrian William was 3rd at Cirencester, Tom Purnell 6th at Swindon and Jacob McAdam 7th at Tetbury. Others went to the seaside with Alex Banks 12th in Brighton, Ross Swain 23rd at Bridlington and Gordon and Rachel Jones at Bude while Ella Shaftoe (JW15-17) had to start at 7am to avoid the heat in New South Wales.
