Dave Wright snipped seconds from his own V60 club record when coming a gratifying 17th (and first in his age group) in the Chippenham ‘10’.

Maidenhead Easter ‘10’, 10 miles road
While Bill Leggate, with slightly more youth on his side, also ran 10 miles this time in Maidenhead. where he produced a fine sub 60 minute run to finish 24th in a large, quality event.

Westonbirt House Easter ½ Marathon, 13.1 miles road
Nearer home, Howard Ewan inched closer to top form in the Westonbirt Easter ½ Marathon finishing in 9th place. Constant Fischer was back in the area to finish 55th and an ever increasingly fit Andrew Jones finished in1.53. They were followed by Pam Wheeler tackling virtually unchartered territory and finding the step from 10 to 21.1km tough.

The Westonbirt 10km event started later in the day making heat a significant issue but it was good to see some of our less frequent competitors (including Tracey Saville, Helen Manners and Nina Lawrence) giving it a determined go.

Marmalade Mooch, Thames Path, 26.2 miles trail
Martin Croucher ran the Marmalade Mouch along the Thames Path to finish 5th in a small and very strung out field. Martin, who was taking it easy (again)as part of his preparation for the Commrades marathon in RSA in May, was particularly pleased to find himself running in higher temperatures and to “not even know he had been running” the following day.

Wonderfully dry and warm weather produced more PB’s than we can count this week including for Cirencester winner James Thomas and 3rd placed Isaac McAdam but also at Cirencester for Mark Sysum, Brendan McCarthy, Rachel McAdam and relative new comer Denise Ewbank. Ian Barrett was another parkrun winner, in Monmouth. Chris Prevett joined the PB crew in Swindon while Ruth Fulford missed hers by 1 second at Thornbury. Junior Henry Sheffield won Stonehouse outright – with yet another PB to be joined by young Isobel Watt winning her 11-14 age group at Rutland and Junior Ella Shaftoe at Conwy.
