Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club 10 Nov 2019
This week, Club Members paid tribute (both at training and at a Service in Malmesbury Abbey) to Chris Riches a long standing and much loved member of the Club who died after a long and very brave battle.
Congratulations to Bill Leggate, Pam Wheeler, Ionel Iancu and Barbara Thomas on their 2019 Club Championship wins. Bill ran away with the Road Race Championships for the second year running with a series of quality performances. This year he won two of the qualifying races and was runner up (behind Dave Bell) in another four to score a total of 116 points from a potential maximum of 120. Ionel Iancu, who also ran 6 events, was a fine runner up with 97 points and Mark Sysum (85 points from 5) and Dave Bell (80 from 4) were in 3rd and 4th places. As predicted, Pam Wheeler’s consistent season gave her a fine win of the Women’s Road Race Championships having earned 105 points from 6 events. Sophie Chudley scored 94 over 5 races while Liza Darroch needed 6 events for 89 points and 3rd place.
The Club Runner Championships reward both improvement and participation enabling Ionel Iancu to win outright to be followed by Bill, Mark Sysum and Tom Renton Rose. For the Women, Pam again had top points but given a bar to winning both events, this year’s title goes to the indefatigable Barbara Thomas with Sophie Chudley and Rachel Barrow tying for 3rd place. All members are advised to check the results tables below on this Newsfeed and the next list of qualifying races which will be announced soon.

Always one to enjoy his running, James Widdowson literally galloped (imaginary whip in hand) across the finishing line on Bath Race course after completing the steep hills and rough tracks of the Trionium Bath Hilly Half, This two lap course includes over 500m of ascent and sections of the Cotswold Way with all its stiles and gates so we can all understand why finding the reserves to overtake 14 or more on the 2nd lap...went to his head.
