Blazing at Blaisdon

Blaisdon in the Forest of Dean was the scene last Thursday of the latest in the county road race series. The 10k event followed an undulating, out and back course. The club was well represented and the performances everyone put in earned plenty of county points and impressive age group placings.

There was a top 15 finish for Brecht Grieten. Kate Jacobs was 2nd lady overall, by 1 second having pushed hard to reel in a CLC Striders runner, and 1st in her V45 age group. Great tactical racing by Kate.

Next home was Brian Harris. He describes his first mile as over exuberant but then steadied his pace to log a season’s best sub 42 minute time and clock up 9 points to add to his county tally. Taking a minute off his time from 2022, he is pleased to be reaping the benefits of his 80/20 approach to training this year. Brian was closely followed by Jo Musk who took 2nd spot in the FV40 category. Kate Sackett came home inside 50 minutes to be 1st FV60 just days after a very successful triathlon.

Our FV75 duo of Ruth Fulford and Liza Darroch battled it out, with Ruth taking 1st place in the category closely followed by Liza.

The pub based race HQ of this small, friendly event meant the evening was rounded off with well- earned pub grub.

Points amassed after this race see Jo Musk currently at the top of her age group and fourth overall in the Ladies Open competition. Brian is a very close second in his category. Kate is first V60 at the moment have earned maximum points in five of the six races she has run. Ruth tops the FV75 age group, also with maximum 10 points in all five of her completed races so far. Despite turning 75 early this year, Liza falls into the FV70 category as her birthday was after the start of the race series. She is currently 3rd in that group.

A fantastic evening of running and results. Congratulations to our super seven!

On Sunday morning Dave Bell flew round the two lap, lakeside course of the Dorney 10k taking first place.

Despite the strong headwind in one direction, Dave achieved his goals for the day of keeping a controlled and consistent pace and finishing inside 35 minutes. He described his run as solid and a good confidence boost as he aims to work back to a sub 34 10k.

Well done Dave!

Some highlights from parkrun this week…..another great 75% age graded run from Ruth Fulford at Gloucester North. Top tip from Lorna and Brian Harris on achieving a top twenty finish…..go to Clifton in Nottingham where only 25 people turn up! Quite a long drive though. Ian Barrett was 3rd at Chipping Norton. Rachel and Alan McAdam were both first in their age groups at Tetbury.

Juniors Joseph and Robert Stickney had cracking runs at Cirencester to finish 5th and 9th respectively and Joseph ran a new course best. Pam Wheeler ran an age graded time of almost 72%. Tom Morgan accompanied his son on his first full parkrun.

Please shout if you are proud of your parkrun achievement…..a new PB, a super duper age grading, a milestone number of runs, not tripping over a Tetbury tree root………. It takes a while to trawl through results to find bits of news.
