A Winning Team & A New Club Record

There was a fantastic start to the County Road Race Championships for this year at the Linda Franks 5 mile race on Sunday. The lovely, friendly event put on by Almost Athletes saw a group of our senior ladies pounding the tarmac of Cheltenham in the first race of the series.

First home for CAC was Kate Jacobs in a superb 30.04. Kate was 1st LV45 and set a new club age group record for the distance. The record was previously held by Wendy Nicholls who was also part of the winning ladies team on Sunday, following Kate in 33.13. Just a few seconds later came Charlotte Wilton who took 2nd FV45.

Kate Sackett also had a great morning out with her 38.09 finish taking 1st place in her LV60 age group. Kate was followed over the line half a minute later by Rachel Ranger in an excellent 38.41.

Kate J reports “It was a hugely competitive race. I gave it everything I had and I sure hurt the next day! I really couldn’t believe how fast I ran. It’s Tuesday night training combined with parkrun paying off!”

Well done to our winning ladies.

Meanwhile, Paul and Sam Timms went to Wales for a favourite race of theirs, a slightly unusual distance of 8 miles at the Lliswerry 8.

Paul describes the race as “Fantastically organised, friendly, flat and fast. It’s an unusual distance, like a 10k pace race with a 3k sting in the tail. But you get a long sleeved top as a reward for your efforts.”

Whilst this was not the quickest of Paul’s four outings at this race, he was very pleased at how evenly he ran it.

The going was much firmer at Cirencester parkrun on Saturday……the mud was frozen! Despite the very cold conditions there were lots of club members out at parkruns this weekend both running and volunteering.

There were Cirencester best times for Nicola Wood, Paul Edrich, Annabel Campbell and Tilly Campbell who accompanied dad Simon. Nick Wall incorporated parkrun into a much longer run and Gary Wood ran well as he returns to form.

Elsewhere, Gordon Jones went well at Lydiard where  Martin Croucher joined his niece for her first ever parkrun. There was another great finish for Ollie Campbell, 2nd overall at Coventry. James Hunton enjoyed an outing at Chippenham. Amanda Naylor had a scenic run at Penrose in Cornwall.

Peter Rowland joined Rachel and Alan McAdam at Tetbury where it was back to the cross country route. Sophie Humphries took on the challenging course at Stroud and Corinne Clark was 2nd lady at Seven Fields.
