A Fine win from Dave Bell

Note: If you like reading these reports – please see the final paragraph

24th July, Newbury Racecourse 10k, 10k, mixed-terrain

He’s back - Dave Bell returned with winning form when finishing first and 35 seconds ahead of the chasing runner in the Newbury 10k. Dave would be the first to admit that this was some 2 minutes slower than his 2018 10k PB but plenty to celebrate given the different running surfaces around Newbury Race Course and the lack of the all important highest level competition.

1 Dave Bell (Cirencester AC) 33.49

21st July, Linda Franks 5, 5 miles, road

In contrast this year’s much delayed Linda Franks 5 was a disaster in terms of times but a triumph in terms of Club cohesion. On a hideously hot Wednesday evening 5 of our runners lined up for a fairly tortuous course round residential streets of Cheltenham. But when Gordon Jones took a fall, Rachel Barrow stopped to give support and then ran to tell wife Rachel that an ambulance was in attendance. She left Ruth Fulford with Gordon and Karen Higuera also pulled out in the heat. So the only one to run as planned in the time he might have hoped for was Paul Barrow who, as a result, was 3rd in his 70+ age group. Everyone else either DNF’d or, in Rachel Barrow’s case, had a much slower time. But given that Gordon recovered relatively quickly despite cuts and bruises and a bit of a bang to the head, the saga had a reasonably happy ending and all club members involved have good reason to be proud.

Thank you so much Liza for having compiled these reports (since I joined at least, and `I suspect for quite some time before that).
