Another parkrun win for Ollie Campbell

15 August 2021

Wednesday evening found the Glos AAA Road Champs enthusiasts, and a few more, at the Prescott Hill Climb near Winchcombe to run the Bugatti 10k. This county favourite, named after the local pub which has sadly gone, sticks to the roads and apart from hills at beginning and end requires a steady effort. Brian Harris attacked, what for him is a relatively short distance, to finish well up the field and 3rd in his very competitive MV50 age group. Veteran prizes were awarded in 10 year age bands making Kate Sackett’s LV55 win even more impressive. She was followed in by Jos Randall and Rupert Chesmore with Liza Darroch, Sam Timms and Barbara Thomas some time later.

Bugatti 10k, 10k, road

1 Paul Hocking (Dursley RC) 34.57 (34.56)

27 Brian Harris (Cirencester AC) 43.23 (43.18) – 3rd MV50

74 Kate Sackett 49.56 (49.42) – 1st LV55

90 Jocelyn Randall 52.55 (52.39)

100 Rupert Chesmore 54.19 (54.02)

149 Liza Darroch 1.02.01 (1.01.44)

155 Sam Timms 1.02.58 (1.02.41)

161 Barbara Thomas 1.04.51 (1.04.27) 178 finished

The week before Lara Tompson was down in Cornwall running the RAT Roseland Trail but all we can tell you is that Lara will have attacked the endless coastal hills with her usual cheerful enthusiasm but running for over 8 hours is no mean feat and finishing, with all four children running beside her, must have felt great.

7th August, RAT Roseland Trail, 32 miles, trail

1 James Mutton (Unattached) 4.06.12

99 Lara Tompson (Cirencester AC) 8.18.01 162 finished

Parkruns 14th August, 5k, trail

With family holidays and no Cirencester parkrun at the RAU for a 2nd week, club members were scattered all over the place popping up in no less than 9 other parkruns. Ollie Campbell was first at Lanhydrock with 18.11. and we apologise to Ollie for not reporting on, and now congratulate him for, similar wins in the last two weeks. This followed some confusion as to whether he was or wasn’t a paid up member. (Moral of the story – pay your subs and tell us what races you are running.) Next fastest was MV60+ veteran Dave Wright with 19.03 in Salisbury and Ross Swain was next with 21.12 at Sewerby. Nea Sneddon-Jenkins was 2nd lady at Tetbury with 22.24 and Kate Sackett was 1st Lady at Stonehouse with 22.48. Tetbury also saw good runs from Neil Broadley, Paul Timms and Alan and Rachel McAdam and great to see Gordon Jones back running (with Rachel) after a nasty fall at the Beer Race. Rachel Ranger and Richard Edwards went to Swindon but Helen Manners was over in Southwick. Finally Simon Campbell’s time of 44.33 suggests either he was accompanying a small person or he ran round the Heartlands course twice!
